What to Expect
When Starting Therapy

Frequency of Therapy Sessions - Most patients attend weekly 45-minute therapy sessions when starting therapy.
Prior to Attending your First Session - Prospective patients can request a free 15-minute phone consultation with a therapist. After the free consultation and before the first session, patients are emailed intake paperwork via a secure, HIPAA-compliant electronic medical record (EMR) system.
First Sessions/Initial Consultation (1-3 sessions) - Your therapist will ask you questions to get to know you better and to understand your reasons for seeking therapy. You’ll be asked about your family, education, current relationships, friends, employment history, interests/hobbies and goals for therapy. You’ll have time to ask questions as well. Your therapist will also describe the type(s) of evidence-based therapy (EBT) they recommended to help you achieve your treatment goals.
Therapy Begins - After your treatment goals and EBT have been set, therapy begins. The specific focus of therapy depends on the specific EBT utilized. Most EBTs will involve therapy sessions in which an agenda is set, a therapeutic skill is taught and practiced during the session, and then therapeutic "homework is assigned to encourage practice of that skill between sessions.
Conclusion of Therapy - EBTs are goal-directed and end when you have reached your treatment goals. Treatment duration depends on symptom severity at the start of treatment, the specific EBT being utilized, and how consistently patients practice therapeutic skills in between sessions.
After Treatment has Concluded - Some patients who have achieved their treatment goals may want to schedule therapy check-in sessions monthly or a few times a year to ensure treatment progress is maintained.
